Gayle Mangan Kassal’s paintings celebrate the vibrancy and joy of life. With a passion for brilliant color and intricate detail, her work captures fleeting moments, transforming ordinary spaces into whimsical, immersive worlds.
Born in Connecticut, Gayle earned a BFA, magna cum laude, from Salve Regina University, and an MFA in painting from UMass Dartmouth, where flowers became her muse. Early travels abroad, including a stay in the Netherlands surrounded by the Keukenhof gardens, inspired her love of color, nature, and imagination.
Gayle has taught at UMass Dartmouth, Salve Regina University, and Anne Arundel Community College. She creates murals and fine art that brighten hospitals, corporations, schools, and private homes nationwide. Her work in pediatric units at Boston Medical Center, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and Children’s National Medical Center transforms walls into friendly, healing spaces, inspiring patients, caregivers, and staff alike.
A breast cancer survivor and mother of two, Gayle believes deeply in the power of art to heal and uplift. She continues to teach, paint, and share her passion with students across Maryland, while serving as a signature board member of the Maryland Pastel Society and a member of the Annapolis Art Alliance. Gayle lives by the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis with her family.

I paint to celebrate life’s simple treasures, capturing colorful moments full of movement and energy. My work is playful, showing characters—from flowers to creatures—interacting in joyful, unexpected ways. A seed may journey from emerging bud to bursting bloom or an octopus might spin the DJ tunes. Whimsy and imagination invite viewers to smile and create their own stories within the painting.
